Honestly this Uniden U-Bell Wifi Video Doorbell is a pretty good looking unit, price is pretty reasonable, when on sale. The issue you see across the web is with connectivity issue, you hear a lot of people complaining about the set up, the initial installation and also wifi connection issue.
It took me a while to get set up, there are a couple things you can try before you go and return it.
- Most of the time your router wifi network is 5 GHz network, because of that the Uniden Wifi doorbell unit tend to fail when you try to connect to your home wifi network. Reason being that you must ensure your WIFI network is a 2.4GHz network and not a 5GHz network. Now because of that, most of the people may go switch the network to 2.4GHz by turning off 5GHz. You can do that, however by doing that you are pretty much scarifying a faster and more secure connection. Here is the trick you can try – Go get a wifi extender and plug it to the outlet where it’s closed by the doorbell. A wifi extender normally comes with 2 bands – 2.4GHz and 5 GHz, once it’s connected, normally you will see your wifi network name such as HOME-EXT and HOME-EXT5G. Note that your video doorbell needs to connect to HOME-EXT which is a 2.4GHz network. Having a wifi extender is an extra costs, however all your other devices can still be connected to the 5GHz network.
- Download Uniden One app if you haven’t already. Within the app, go go More (the 3 dots at the bottom of the app), Settings, Wi-Fi Settings. In there, make sure the Wi-Fi name is HOME-EXT, punch in password if it’s not there already (the password would be the password you use to connect to HOME-EXT network). Then click Generate button.
- Once you clicked Generate button, a QR code will be generated. At this time what you want to do is bring your phone to the installed video doorbell and scan it. Scan it means you need to face the QR code to the doorbell camera, make sure also your phone is very bright. Be patience at this point. Start placing the phone (QR code) closer to the camera, then gradually move the phone back and forth very slowly until it scans. When the doorbell is connected, you will hear something along, it’s connected, the device is being registered, etc. When you hear that, you should be good to go.
I know I wrote this in 5 mins so it may not be the best instruction but i feel like someone could use some help here so try this out, if it works give me a shout. Good luck with your new Uniden wifi video doorbell. Have fun with it.
